Banana Cue, Where are you?

It's was a cold weather here in Cavite for almost weeks that we would just want to stay inside the house while the bed is pulling us to stay on it. We just want to sleep and eat when this kind of weather fills around. Aside from craving for soup to warmth the day, i also crave for a hot banana cue for my snack. Perfect when partnered with hot coffee or hot choco. Whatcha think?!

My Home-cooked Banana Cue

Banana Cue is a common Philippines' snack food that is cooked in deep oil and coated with caramelized brown sugar. It is commonly skewered after cooking and is usually sell it on streets. You can also cook it at home to make sure that what you eat is clean and can pick the right ripe saba for cooking. Since i have bad experienced of buying it on the streets where banana is too hard, i decided to cook it by myself.

Here is the procedure of how to cook Banana Cue.

You will need:
*10 pcs. saba (A cooking banana also known as the Cardaba banana)
*Oil for deep frying
*Brown sugar for coating

1. On a frying pan, heat amount of oil for deep fry.
2.  When oil is already hot, place the peeled banana over and fry half done.
3. Sprinkle sugar until it caramelized, making roll over the banana to make equally coated with sugar.
4. When cooked, pick one by one and let the oil drip.
5. Serve it on a platter or skewer it for easy handling.

Happy Merienda!

Nzo on  his fave snack after school

I aslo cooked this in preparation for my upcoming balikbayan visitor who happened to be my long lost BFF in elementary who is flying out  from San Francisco and is craving for Filipino foods. Do you think she'll like it? What else Filipino menu would you suggest?

God bless!
