Four O'Clock in the morning start my weekdays work where first job awaits is to prepare breakfast for my three sons who were all scheduled for their morning class. My College son who need to travel from Molino, Cavite to PUP-Taguig everyday; and my two sons who are in High School and Elementary with school service who made pick up so early, I should be really wake up as early as 4 AM to beat the time and make sure they won't be late for their class..huh! What i prepared this morning is fried rice, and egg-hotdog omelet.

Healthier Chicken Adobo On The Go!

If there is someone whom i owe my skills in cooking, it was non other but to my mom. At an early age of 11 years old, I was in 5th grade that time when she first taught us (me and my sister) to learn and like the skills of cooking. It is very important that you must also like what you are doing so you can easily learn and enjoy it.

My parents were kind of busy buzzing bee at the market selling fruits for our living. We also help them selling fruits on weekends where it is usually the "Market Day". Before lunch time, mom would ask it's either me or my sister to buy ingredients to cook for lunch (we eat our lunch at the store). At first she would list on the ingredients of a certain menu and its procedure of cooking. But the next time she would ask us to to cook, she would just say the menu and it's up to you to buy and complete the ingredients for a certain menu then cook it! That wasn't hard for me because i save the note with ingredients and procedure by sticking it on the fridge door..hehehe. Until such time, i finally memorized and no need to look on it anymore.

One of the easiest menu she taught us is the adobo. Much easier to cook the chicken than pork by the length of time. This time, i just added a little twist on how to make it more healthier than the usual one. I have read from a blog of a friend that aside from what we know that chicken is rich protein source, it is also an anti-depressant! Read more of her blog here: http://www.gastronomybyjoy.com/2014/01/koks-manok-and-closer-look-at-eating.html

We also know that green leafy veggies are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Well, i just added swamp cabbage on it, since it is commonly found at the supermarket. So, with the health benefits from white meat of chicken and leafy veggies, sure it is much healthier!

HERE'S THE EASIEST WAY TO COOK IT:

Ingredients:

1/2 kilo chicken (adobo cut)
soy sauce
garlic (crushed)
pepper ( i used powder)
a bond of swamp cabbage (or any green leafy veggies)
calamansi juice
bay leaf (optional, for some don't like the aroma of it, so as my kids)

Procedure:

1.In a pan, marinate the chicken with soy sauce, garlic and pepper.
2. Add one cup of water and bring to boil for 20minutes or as the chicken get tender. (Do not overcook)
3. Add the swamp cabbage (or any green leafy veggies you want :) simmer for another 2minutes for that and add the calamansi juice. Presto!

HERE GOES THE HEALTHIER CHICKEN ADOBO!

Serve with rice :)

Banana Cue, Where are you?

It's was a cold weather here in Cavite for almost weeks that we would just want to stay inside the house while the bed is pulling us to stay on it. We just want to sleep and eat when this kind of weather fills around. Aside from craving for soup to warmth the day, i also crave for a hot banana cue for my snack. Perfect when partnered with hot coffee or hot choco. Whatcha think?!

My Home-cooked Banana Cue

Banana Cue is a common Philippines' snack food that is cooked in deep oil and coated with caramelized brown sugar. It is commonly skewered after cooking and is usually sell it on streets. You can also cook it at home to make sure that what you eat is clean and can pick the right ripe saba for cooking. Since i have bad experienced of buying it on the streets where banana is too hard, i decided to cook it by myself.

Here is the procedure of how to cook Banana Cue.

You will need:
*10 pcs. saba (A cooking banana also known as the Cardaba banana)
*Oil for deep frying
*Brown sugar for coating

1. On a frying pan, heat amount of oil for deep fry.
2.  When oil is already hot, place the peeled banana over and fry half done.
3. Sprinkle sugar until it caramelized, making roll over the banana to make equally coated with sugar.
4. When cooked, pick one by one and let the oil drip.
5. Serve it on a platter or skewer it for easy handling.

Happy Merienda!

Nzo on  his fave snack after school

I aslo cooked this in preparation for my upcoming balikbayan visitor who happened to be my long lost BFF in elementary who is flying out  from San Francisco and is craving for Filipino foods. Do you think she'll like it? What else Filipino menu would you suggest?

God bless!

Reminiscing My Youth Scent with Lewis and Pearl Cologne

I am very much sensitive with fragrance and scents. My nose get easily itchy when i smell something strong in odor. Next is unending sneeze til i get teary eyes that lead to allergy attack. Strong scents caused me headache too! I can still remember the strong scent of my mom's perfume (brand from a well known cosmetics company for women) that every time she sprayed on her body, it turned my head fall sideways and start to feel dizzy.

That is why I chose colognes over perfumes. I like light scented colognes such Ice Water of Lewis and Pearl (formerly known as Green Cross Cologne). It brings back my teenage scent since i used to use it back in my youth days. I don't exactly remember why in vain i stopped using it. Maybe because i tried other products. So when i saw it at the Supermarket, i bought it without second thought.

It brings smile on me and hubby's face...it refreshed our memories on how sweet the scents that we both fall in love with. There's another variant that we are looking, from old Green Cross Cologne in old green bottle in the 90's. We may never know exactly the variant but the smell still linger--a scent same with Aspen perfume that was used by hubby in his youth days. I hope it is still available, that's for hubby!

We say Hello! to the old sweet scent of Lewis and Pearl Cologne Ice Water variant and we use it to refresh us everyday. All variants of Lewis and Pearl Cologne have been dermatologically tested to be safe and hypoallergenic. Goodbye itchy nose and allergy for me!

WE STAY FRESH AND REFRESHED EVERYDAY WITH LEWIS AND PEARL COLOGNES!

Mogu Mogu Monsters in the House!

I have three kids and they're all boys! They have different attitudes, likes and dislikes in life. But they all love to eat, play the instruments and a common sport of playing basketball! But wait! There's one more common thing they liked-- eating Nata de coco! They eat sweetened nata de coco for dessert, as i used to cook and sweetened it for them. They also like the buco pandan salad because of it (actually, they only picked for the nata de coco through the salad). They enjoy the chewy texture that i think gives interest to them in chewing.

Now, they have liked one common drink that has nata de coco in it which is now available in the market today. How they can resist the Mogu Mogu when there's nata in it?! He he he. It is a tropical juice drink with nata de coco bits. They first fell in love with it as first introduced to them by someone. From then on, they would asked me to buy it for them as pasalubong whenever i go for grocers. They have their own pick for personal flavors they loved. For my eldest son, he liked the lychee flavor while my second son and bunso agreed with the same flavor of coconut. Me, i like the lychee too!
My Nzo really loves Mogu Mogu!

Here are more of their flavors which best describes your day! YOU GOTTA CHEW!

BIG CHILL To Chill Out the Day!

Holiday is over! We have been eaten a lot (sweets, carbs, fatty..etc) and quite set aside being health conscious. Of course! we wanted to enjoy the Holidays that's why we eat more what's on the table. Eating like there's no more tomorrow..so, how's your waistline and weights after? Never mind! There's still another day to start dieting..haha!

Honestly, me and hubby got fed up from eating more after the holidays. When we dropped by at SM Molino, we saw the booth of  BIG CHILL which cater premium fresh fruit shakes. I remember back then when first time i tasted a fruit shake that offers single flavor of an unripe mango shake, that was known as MANGO BRUTUS in Harrison Plaza. I wonder if there still such store nowadays.

Anyways, for now, we enjoyed the natural taste of BIG CHILL which has more fresh fruits flavor to choose from. We have just tasted the banana flavor and truly refreshing! It satisfied our taste buds with its sweetness just right.
